1 Minute Breath Hold Challenge Additional Information

It will probably be harder than you expect to hold your breath for an entire minute. This does not sound like a long time, but think about how often you normally breathe. Odds are, you take a breath without even thinking about it every few seconds. If you really want to be able to hold your breath for one minute, there are a few tips that can help you to succeed. 

1. Work Your Way Up To It

You should start by holding your breath for twenty seconds. Then try doing it for thirty seconds. Keep edging the time up until you can do it for the whole duration. This will help to develop your lungs so that they get used to holding the air in, causing the burning feeling to decrease. 

2. Make Sure That You Take A Full Breath

When you get started, you really need to take a deep breath. Make sure that you exhale completely before you do this. Most people do not exhale completely every time that they breathe, leaving wasted air in their lungs. Get it all out so that you can start with new air. 

3. Think About Something Else

While you are trying to hold your breath for an entire minute, you would be wise to think about anything else. You need to take your mind off of the discomfort. You also do not want to watch the clock or it may seem to be moving too slowly so that you will give up when you could have done it. If you distract yourself, this will be easier. 

4. Have Someone Tell You When You Are Close

You want to have a person with you who can tell you that you are getting close. Do not just hold your breath for as long as you can with no idea how you are doing, or you might let it back out with only five seconds to go. When someone tells you that you only have ten seconds left, you will find a new sense of determination because you know that you are close.
