- Step 1: A player from each team face off in the middle of the ice. The referee drops the puck on the ice and the players battle for the puck.
- Step 2: The team that gets the puck tries to score the puck in the net past the goalie. The puck must pass the offense line before an offensive player can cross the line and touch the puck.
- Step 3: When skating you need to keep your knees slightly bent and push off your right and left leg, alternate each time. If you are skating with the puck you need to keep your eyes up so you can see the defenders as well as open teammates.
- Step 4: Defenders are allowed to check the offensive player with their shoulder. It is important to keep a strong base as you come into check someone.
- Step 5: Skating backwards is very important to a defender. Push off with your legs the same way you would as if skating forward but push backwards.
- Step 6: To hit the puck rotate at the waist and bring the stick up and back. Rotate your body and stick forward and hit the puck in the direction you want it to go.
- Step 7: The team that scores the most goals in designated period of time wins the game.

hockey stick and skates. There are however many different ice hockey variations
that you can try out that may require different types of ice hockey equipment or may even
require no equipment at all.
