How to do the Lat Pulldown - Learn Proper Lat Pulldown Form

  1. Step 1: Place your knees under the provided pads. Position the pads so that your thighs are not able to raise up off the bench.
  2. Step 2: Grasp the lat bar with a little wider than shoulder-width grip. This is the starting position.
  3. Step 3: Begin exercise by pulling the bar down to your upper chest. Focus on using your lats to pull the bar down and not your arms.
  4. Step 4: Slowly reverse movement back to starting position. This completes one rep.

Lat Pulldown Variations and Lat Pulldown Alternatives

  1. Variation 1: Move your hands to the outside of the bar to perform a wide-grip lat pulldown.
  2. Variation 2: Move your hands close to together to perform a close-grip lat pulldown.
  3. Variation 3: Perform a neutral-grip lat pulldown with a bar that has handles on the ends.

Lat Pulldown Tips

  1. Tip 1: Keep your core tight.
  2. Tip 2: Control the weight as you let your arms back up. Allow your arms to go back to starting position after each rep to get a good stretch in your lats.
  3. Tip 3: Don't flare your elbows out when pulling the weight down.
  4. Tip 4: Do not rock your body back and forth in an attempt to pull the weight down. Use lighter weight if necessary.
