The only lat pulldown equipment that you really need is the following: lat pulldown machine and v-bar. There are however many different lat pulldown variations that you can try out that may require different types of lat pulldown equipment or may even require no equipment at all.

Tips

  1. Keep your core tight.
  2. Control the weight as you let your arms back up. Allow your arms to go back to starting position after each rep to get a good stretch in your lats.
  3. Don't flare your elbows out when pulling the weight down.
  4. Do not rock your body back and forth in an attempt to pull the weight down. Use lighter weight if necessary.

Variations

  1. Move your hands to the outside of the bar to perform a wide-grip lat pulldown.
  2. Move your hands close to together to perform a close-grip lat pulldown.
  3. Perform a neutral-grip lat pulldown with a bar that has handles on the ends.
