How to do the Seated Military Press - Learn Proper Seated Military Press Form

  1. Step 1: Sit on a bench press with a barbell racked behind you.
  2. Step 2: Grasp the barbell so that your arms are in a 90 degree angle and your palms are facing forward.
  3. Step 3: Raise the barbell overhead and then lower it in front of you so that it is near your shoulders for your starting position.
  4. Step 4: Exhaling, raise the barbell straight overhead.
  5. Step 5: Inhaling, lower the barbell back to the starting position.
  6. Step 6: Repeat for a complete set.

  1. Variation 1: If you do not have shoulder problems, alternate lowering the barbell behind the neck and in front of your shoulders.
  2. Variation 2: If you do not have back problems, perform this exercise while standing straight up.
