How to do the Upward Salute - Learn Proper Upward Salute Form

  1. Step 1: Stand straight up with your feet shoulder widths apart and your hands straight down the side of your body.
  2. Step 2: While in the starting position, raise your hands outwards and upwards to shoulder level. Have your palms facing each other.
  3. Step 3: Lower your shoulder enough so that your arms feel like they are going into your shoulders. Keep your arms and shoulders firm.
  4. Step 4: While keeping your arms straight, inhale and raise your arms slowly towards the ceiling until they are straight up and pointing towards the ceiling.
  5. Step 5: Your body should now be completely aligned and straight. Hold this pose for a few breaths and release.

  1. Variation 1: If you want a deeper arm stretch, you can face the back of your hands outwards when in the Upward Salute Pose. This will allow your triceps to be stretched even further.
