How to do the YTWL - Learn Proper YTWL Form

  1. Step 1: Grab a pair of light dumbbells and lay down on an incline bench so that your arms hang down off the bench.
  2. Step 2: Begin with the "Y" portion of the exercise, this is done by raising your arms up in a Y shape with dumbbells perpendicular to the ground. Lower the weight backs down.
  3. Step 3: Next, perform the "T" portion of the exercise by laterally raising both dumbbells out to the sides with palms facing behind you. Lower the weights back down.
  4. Step 4: Next, perform the "W" portion of the exercise by raising your elbows up so that fists are pointed at the ground and your shoulder blades are contracted.
  5. Step 5: Finally, perform the "L" portion of the exercise by raising your elbows up as you would for the "W" movement, but then raise the dumbbells up so that your forearms are parallel with the ground. Reverse movement back down.

  1. Variation 1: Perform dumbbell front raises.
  2. Variation 2: Perform reverse flys.

  1. Tip 1: Be sure to use a light weight and do not at any point swing the dumbbells up.
  2. Tip 2: Be sure to warm up before performing this exercise.
  3. Tip 3: Focus on using your shoulder muscles and not your traps.
